Because we do a lot of shopping and errands in Bishop, I’ve spent a lot of time exploring, and one thing is clear: this small town packs a big punch when it comes to food. From classic comfort dishes to international flavors and local bakery delights, these restaurants are my go-to spots whenever I’m in town. Whether you’re passing through, flying in, or spending a weekend exploring the Eastern Sierra, you’ll want to check these out.
Thai Thai RestaurantLocated right at the Bishop Airport, Thai Thai offers a welcoming atmosphere and delicious Thai dishes made fresh. Locals love the curries and noodle dishes, and it’s a perfect stop before or after a flight.
Amigos Mexican RestaurantAmigos is a long-time Bishop favorite for hearty Mexican food and friendly service. Don’t miss the famous Acapulco chicken, and make sure to grab a container of house-made salsa to take home — it’s the best! If the weather is good, and your group is smallish, make sure to eat al fresho in the back garden.
Back Alley Bowl & GrillA local hangout that combines great food with fun. The Back Alley serves steaks, burgers, and seafood in a casual setting — plus bowling and a full bar. As unlikely as seems, the steaks are the best in Bishop. It's perfect for a night out or post-adventure meal.
Holy Smokes BBQ & CateringThis popular BBQ joint serves up tender smoked meats and hearty sides. My family often orders large family-style servings to take home. If you’re in a hurry, the Redneck Taco is a favorite. Slow-smoked brisket, ribs, and pulled pork are all delicious.
Erick Schat’s BakkeryA Bishop landmark since 1938, Schat’s is famous for its “Sheepherder Bread®,” baked fresh daily in stone ovens. My favorite is the Mule Kick Sandwich, which they often have ready-made in a cold case — perfect for travelers in a hurry. Don’t forget to grab a loaf of Monkey Bread or other sweet treats while you’re there!
