When we're in Mammoth we are always looking for somewhere new to grab lunch so we can get on with our adventures. One afternoon this summer, when I picked up my fisherboy from the fishing Crowley, we decided to stop in for lunch at Crowley General Store. What a wonderful surprise. The cook spent lots of time helping us understand the menu and then prepared our food to order. The Test Pilot is avoiding carbs, so they made him a special sandwich, protein style. There was a pretty large selection of ready foods in a cooler, and I chose a kale salad, which was really delicious. The kids went for burgers, chili and enchiladas and none of us was disappointed (except for maybe the dog, who only got water).
After we ate, Dan, the owner and wine buyer took me on a tour of his impressive wine selection. He was very accommodating of my curiosity and knowledgeable about his wines. He has a wide variety of wines, but my favorites are the low volume, mid and high quality wines he manages to bring in because of his relationships with distributors who wouldn't usually do business with a gas station. Makes for a great lunch stop, either when travelling to/from Mammoth or as a special afternoon trip on a slow mountain day. Its worth the drive to Crowley, just for the fun of it.
