One of our sons is a dedicated fly fisherman, so we've spent lots of time -- and too much money -- at the local fishing supply stores. Our favorite by far is the Troutfly/Troutfitter, probably because it's the largest fishing store and guide service in the Eastern Sierras. Best of all, its a dedicated fishing store, not an 'outdoors sports' store with a mediocre supply of fishing equipment stuck in the corner.
I was shocked to learn that they do more business through their online store than they do in person. It seems counter-intuitive that a store with so many personable guides and expert staff would be known for internet sales.
Still, not a week in Mammoth goes by that we don't find ourselves braving the crazy-tiny parking lot to stop by the Troutfitter to chat with the staff, load up on high quality fishing supplies, and get the scoop on where to find the fish that day.
If you need fishing supplies while you're in Mammoth, or if you simply want to check out what's new in gear, wear and flies, The Troutfitter is the place to go. To visit the Troutfitter website, click here .

We've also gotten to know several of the local guides pretty well. A couple of our favorites are:
