Craft Brews and Breathtaking Views: Exploring Eastern Sierra Breweries

We are lucky in the Eastern Sierra region of California to have a pretty awesome craft beer scene. Whether you're a beer connoisseur or want to soak in views with a drink after a day of adventure, we've got you covered.
  1. Mammoth Brewing Company (Mammoth Lakes): Mammoth Brewing Company is the oldest and most well-known brewery in Mammoth Lakes. With its corner location on Minaret and Lake Mary Road, it is easy to find for travelers, tho locals remember when this location was Whiskey Creek. It is co-located with a great restaurant, The Eatery, and is the force behind the beloved Bluesapalooza Festival of Music and Beers in late summer. From their renowned Epic IPA and Golden Trout Pilsner to specialty brews inspired by the region's natural wonders, Mammoth Brewing Company offers popular and drinkable beers in a large venue with plenty of outdoor space.
  2. June Lake Brewing (June Lake): Nestled in the charming town of June Lake, June Lake Brewing is a must-visit destination for beer lovers. This small-batch brewery is known for its handcrafted beers made with locally sourced ingredients. Enjoy their range of brews, including hop-forward IPAs, rich stouts, and crisp lagers, while taking in the serene mountain views from their outdoor patio. June Lake Brewing's commitment to sustainability and community involvement adds an extra touch of authenticity to their craft. If you're staying in Mammoth, JLB is worth the drive. Plan to grab a beer, and a meal or snack from the co-located food truck, Ohana395.
  3. Mountain Rambler Brewery (Bishop): Located in the vibrant town of Bishop, Mountain Rambler Brewery combines a passion for beer with a love for the outdoors. This brewery and gastropub offer a cozy and inviting atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to relax and enjoy a pint. Sample their diverse selection of beers, which often include seasonal and experimental brews, all while savoring delectable food pairings from their kitchen. Mountain Rambler Brewery embodies the spirit of the Eastern Sierra, celebrating the region's natural wonders and local community.
  4. Black Doubt Brewing Company, now called "Distant Brewing" (Mammoth Lakes): This is our family go-to and was once a hidden gem in Mammoth Lakes, dedicated to crafting exceptional beers that cater to a variety of tastes. With a focus on small-batch production and attention to detail, they offer a rotating selection of brews that range from hop-forward ales to Belgian-inspired classics. Their taproom, which was previously the town police station, provides a warm and inviting space to enjoy their creations while engaging with fellow beer enthusiasts. Be sure to look for the relics of the police station, including the property cage by the pool table. They now offer some great pub food. My fav is the greek salad, but we love everything they serve. (Be sure to start with the pretzel bread sticks with beer cheese sauce!)
Raise a glass, soak in the breathtaking views, and toast to the flavors of this remarkable corner of California.
